Dental Extractions

People young and old fear seeing the dentist because of tooth extractions. Many years ago, when faced with a dental issue, many people would opt to remove a tooth to solve the problem. However, with the advancement in dentistry and a change in patient mindset, people now prefer to save a tooth rather than to remove it.

There are instances where a tooth extraction is unavoidable, and the patient has no other treatment option other than to remove the tooth or leave it alone. If that is the case, tooth extractions do not have to be painful. Visit us today so that we can help!

Possible reasons for dental extractions:

  1. Cracked tooth into the nerve

  2. Tooth is decayed beyond repair

  3. Lack of finances for costly, complex treatment

Types of dental extractions

There are two types of teeth extractions:

  1. Regular Extractions: Local anaesthesia is administered during all dental extractions. In most cases, the tooth is gripped and then are slowly removed by gradually loosening the affected tooth out the socket. This form of extraction is non-surgical.

  2. Surgical Extractions: In some cases where teeth are severely broken down, and no grip can be achieved, a small surgical procedure might be done to expose more tooth structure by removing obstructing bone or dividing the tooth, in order to retrieve the infected root.
